12 Proven Habits of Successful Entrepreneurs

Reading time:  5  minutes

Do you want to become a successful entrepreneur? Everyone knows that it does not come naturally and you really have to do something for it. But what routines and habits do successful entrepreneurs adopt to achieve their goals?

There are several small but important commitments that effective entrepreneurs practice in going about their daily routine and helping them stay above the rest.

When it comes to success, these entrepreneurs recognize that it is often the smaller disciplines that catapult them far beyond others who may be smarter, more talented or have access to more resources that would seemingly give them the advantage.

Highly effective entrepreneurs are driven and succeed better than their fellow entrepreneurs because they are committed to the simple things that give them the perseverance and resilience to keep moving forward.

We list the 12 habits common to billionaires, leading investors and founders of high-growth start-ups.

Read, read and read!

If there's one thing that the successful professional seems to do more than anyone else, and maybe something else, it's reading. Successful entrepreneurs devour books with an incredible appetite for reading.

It seems that the more successful business owners are, the more hours they spend reading each day. This cannot be a coincidence. It's worth making the time to read real books. Try to make it a habit before going to bed, or read early in the morning as well. If you really can't bring yourself to adopt this success habit, at least consider listening to audiobooks, which can easily be done while traveling or doing a cardio workout.

Get plenty of sleep

This is perhaps the most underrated and most valuable success habit for entrepreneurs. Sleep affects everything from health to how good you feel and look, as well as your thinking and decision-making abilities in everyday life.

Just a few extra hours of real quality sleep can give you the edge you need to perform better, while feeling a lot better all day long. Whatever you want to improve, try to get a good night's sleep before looking for other solutions.

It is true that many successful people get up early, we already wrote about it in the 5 AM club. Many also go to bed much earlier than most. Yet there are many geniuses who are also night people. Find what works best for you and do your absolute best every day.

They are getting ready for the day

Effective entrepreneurs are always ready for their day. No matter how busy they are, they accept that they need to be prepared and organized to be completely at the right time.

The better prepared they are, the more confident, relaxed and efficient they work. They draw up lists, goals, phone calls, meetings, calendars, what they are going to eat, sleep, what clothes they will wear, itineraries, time to exercise, family and friends. They make sure to start every day before the game, instead of consistently running after things.

Sports and physical activity

You don't have to walk around like an athlete, model or hefty bodybuilder to be a successful entrepreneur. This is not about appearance. It is true that a strong body fosters a strong mind. You have to have one if you want to make it as an entrepreneur. You don't have to do several hundred burpees a day or master the most complicated yoga poses. Even daily walking can help.

Make sure you have some form of exercise and outdoor activities in your schedule and you do it every day.

Money & financial management

Successful entrepreneurs are very careful with money management. They have to be great in this area to balance cash flow and avoid going out of business when they start to realize real success. This does not mean that you always go for the cheapest option. It's really about realizing that every dollar spent gets you closer or further away from your goals.

For example, many of today's best entrepreneurs and investors are very thrifty with their fixed costs such as housing. Some have lived in the same modest house for decades. Others have sold everything and live in low-cost homes from time to time, so they fully invest everything in their business to take it to the next level!

Set big, clear goals

It sounds pretty obvious, but you are always limited or taken to a higher level by the goals you set. Be aware of this, set beautiful and big goals that you set comfort zone hit, grow and reach milestones you never thought possible before!

Concentrate on tasks of the greatest value

We all have the same number of hours per day. The difference is that the most successful founders refuse to work on anything other than their most valuable tasks. They try to stay connected to their teams, but they know they simply can't afford to get caught up in very detailed minor tasks when they have to be busy building their billion dollar businesses. They should limit themselves to only the work that delivers the best possible ROI on their time. Everything else is a distraction to them.

Networking and building important relationships

Many of the hyper-successful entrepreneurs interviewed may have at least briefly attended top colleges or worked for organizations like Apple or Microsoft. Still, they are also the first to tell you it is who you know that makes a difference and not what you know in, among other things, obtaining new assignments, financing or achieving great successes.

They create routines for success

It may not be sexy, but it works. You probably didn't have the ambition to go to bed very early or build into a regular routine when you first dreamed of what life could be like in high school or starting your own business.

Your ideal may have looked very different. Until you realize that when you organize your time and have routines you can reap incredible benefits. You can get more done and your health gets a lot better.

However, that doesn't mean life has to be boring. You can still wake up and go kite surfing from your private island or head to the beach to surf for lunch. Success here is just as good as scheduling a regular time to let off steam on a regular basis and do inspiring things.

They always try to fail

If you don't fail, you aren't pushing your own boundaries hard enough. If you are not ahead of your time, you are actually behind. If you don't get no from potential investors, then you are not asking enough or from the best investors. If you sometimes don't have to apologize to customers, then you're not pushing the boundaries enough of what you can do for them. If you are only successful, you may be trading too easily when there is so much more for you.

They always have motivation and information at hand

Successful entrepreneurs always have motivational quotes, books, audiobooks or seminars at hand. They consistently follow their written goals and organize their next steps. They have plentiful notes on their computers, on paper, and contacts on file. If they have questions, they have the resources at their fingertips to get the answers they need.

Make and protect time to relax

Getting burned out is one of the biggest threats to hard-working entrepreneurs. If you want to get the results and manage to really be on top of everything with focus, it's important to take decisive time and defend it so that you can relax and de-stress each week. You can't afford to compromise on this.
