However, this is just the tip of the iceberg. In fact, there is much more beneath the surface. Below we discuss 9 research-backed benefits of positive psychology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2>Understanding positive psychology<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Before discussing the benefits of positive psychology, it&#039;s important to understand the definition:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote\"><blockquote><p>&#8220;Positieve psychologie is de wetenschappelijke studie van wat het leven het meest de moeite waard maakt.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3>The founder of positive psychology<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Positive Psychology was founded by <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Martin_Seligman\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"Martin Seligman (opens in a new tab)\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" class=\"rank-math-link\">Martin Seligman<\/a>, a renowned researcher and psychologist who was elected president of the organization in 1998 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.apa.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"American Psychological Association (opens in a new tab)\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" class=\"rank-math-link\">American Psychological Association<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Seligman had zijn bekendheid verdiend door zijn theorie van &#8220;aangeleerde hulpeloosheid&#8221;. Any other goals that follow will go straight to the main goal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Many believe that the life coaching industry is quite saturated, but what they are actually seeing is a steady growth of the industry that comes from the fact that it simply works for millions of people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Positive psychology is also gaining in popularity for the same reason.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2>9 Research-Backed Benefits of Positive Psychology<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3>Happiness is contagious<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Research has shown that those surrounded by happy friends and family will find greater happiness in the future. Als je moeite doet om positiviteit van binnen te voelen, zal dit leiden tot uiterlijke uitingen van geluk (Scott &amp; Barnes, 2011).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>Wealth is not a measure of happiness<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Too many people believe that finding wealth will lead to happiness, but studies have shown that this is not the case. Focusing less on gaining wealth is more likely to lead to more happiness (Aknin, Norton &amp; Dunn, 2009).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>Do good deeds<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Those who do acts of kindness not only feel a greater sense of well-being in themselves, but they are also more likely to be accepted by their peers (Layous, Nelson, Oberle, Schonert-Reichl, &amp; Lyubomirsky, 2012).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>Generosity is key<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Those who show generosity by spending money on others are arguably happier with themselves (Dunn, Aknin, &amp; Norton, 2008).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>Volunteering is rewarding<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>When you volunteer to work for a cause you believe in, you will feel happier and more fulfilled in life. Studies have also shown that it reduces symptoms of depression (Jenkinson et al., 2013).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>Material possessions do not make you happy<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Research has shown that those who prefer to spend their money on experiences rather than material possessions are much happier in life (Howell &amp; Hill, 2009).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>Hugs have a healing effect<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Hugging promotes the brain&#039;s production of oxytocin, which leads to feelings of trust, empathy, and morality. Hugging and showing physical affection to the people you care about in your life will increase the well-being of yourself and those around you (Barraza &amp; Zak, 2009).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>Gratitude will change your life<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Last, but certainly not least, is gratitude.
