If everything goes according to plan, we feel like we&#039;re in control. But when life takes an unexpected turn, it can seriously increase our anxiety and sense of stress. For many people, life currently feels like a time of uncertainty, with the continuous stirring in politics, society, corona pandemic and negative reporting on all news and (social) media channels. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Research shows that people react differently to uncertainty, and that people with a greater intolerance to uncertainty may be less resilient and therefore more prone to low mood, negative or depressed feelings and fears.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>No one can avoid the unexpected. But these simple tips can help you better face life&#039;s uncertainties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2>Be kind to yourself<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Some people handle insecurities better than others, so don&#039;t beat yourself up if your tolerance for unpredictability is lower than a friend&#039;s. Remind yourself that it may take a while for the stressful situation to resolve, but there is often light at the end of the tunnel, and in the meantime, be patient with yourself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2>Look back on previous successes<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>De kans is groot dat je in het verleden al eerder stressvolle gebeurtenissen hebt overwonnen &#8211; en je hebt het overleefd! Maar dwangmatig het nieuws checken houdt je alleen maar opgewonden. Probeer daarom het aantal keer dat je het laatste nieuws, berichten of social media probeert te volgen echt te beperken en dit zeker te vermijden op kwetsbare momenten van de dag, zoals vlak voor het slapengaan. Zorg ervoor dat je met een gerust gevoel en zonder stress naar bed gaat, zodat je je onderbewustzijn z&#8217;n werk kunt laten doen door zich te richten op de zaken die er wel toe doen tijdens jouw slapen en dromen. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2>Don&#039;t keep thinking about things you can&#039;t control<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Wanneer de onzekerheid toeslaat, stellen veel mensen zich meteen alle worstcasescenario&#8217;s voor. Continue to make an effort to eat well, exercise and get enough sleep.
